Alcoholics Anonymous

The signs of alcoholism are often easy to dismiss when you question yourself, but much easier for others to see because "outside parties" can act as unbiased observers.

Answering the following four questions can often help you determine if you are an alcoholic. Answering "yes" to any two questions suggests the signs of alcoholism:

  • Have you ever drank in the morning in order to start the day or get rid of the effects of a hangover?
  • Have you ever felt bad/guilty about your drinking?
  • Have you ever felt you should cut down on your drinking?
  • Have you ever gotten annoyed or irritated when others have mentioned your drinking?

Alcoholics suffering from alcohol addiction often cannot "cut down" on their drinking without outside help and the expert assistance of intervention or rehab. For those individuals, this is where Alcoholics Anonymous, family, and friends can come in ... in terms of helping someone get started on breaking alcohol dependency.

One of the major tasks is to help people cut down their alcohol consumption and repair the damage done to the body from alcohol abuse. There are a variety of detox and support mechanisms and supplements to help with this challenge and a variety of replacement activities, such as meditation, for alcohol consumption.

Regardless as to whether someone disbelieves they have a problem with alcohol, and whether or not they show the signs of alcoholism, the following people should NEVER drink:

  • Pregnant women (expecting mothers)
  • People with liver damage (or health conditions that worsen with alcohol)
  • Recovering alcoholics
  • People taking medications that, when taken in conjunction with alcohol, can produce deadly side effects
  • People who engage in activities that require high alertness skills (such as pilots)
