Meditation for Alcohol Abuse
|
The effects of alcohol abuse are similar to the effects of alcoholism. Anyone who uses alcohol in an irresponsible fashion can damage their liver, heart and nervous system. Pregnant mothers can also severely damage their unborn babies. To help stem off potential damaging effects of alcohol abuse, the use of a sound nutritional program with an emphasis on particular nutraceuticals is recommended. They can help regenerate the body after it has been abused and harmed by alcohol. The other effects of alcohol abuse that extend to the social sphere and work environment go without saying. Alcoholics often fail to meet school, work, family or social responsibilities with disastrous results that impact their job, social sphere and income. Over-using alcohol can destroy relationships, and cause work accidents that can be life threatening to oneself and others. There are possible legal problems, automobile crashes or other accidents. Alcoholics can lose their jobs, their families and their lives.
While most people recognize that alcoholism or alcohol abuse can set into motion all sorts of harmful consequences, there's still the problem of refraining from using alcohol because of its attractive or addictive nature. That's where counseling and awareness come into play, the replacement of alcohol with other positive activities, self-discipline and the support of family, colleagues, peers and friends. Sometimes alcohol withdrawal and rehab programs are necessary. The idea behind meditation for alcoholism and alcohol abuse is to provide an activity by which one can police their own mind to help cut off acting on the impulse to drink alcohol. The positive effects of meditation (stress reduction, the development of a pacified mind, euphoric feelings, etc.) can also work toward replacing some of the reasons for which people take alcohol, including the reasons behind binge drinking. The challenge of meditation is also an activity option that's available as an alternative to drinking alcohol, just as are most other positive activities. However, there's one big difference. As stated, meditation ... as it's mastered ... helps one address (cut off) the cravings for drinking alcohol at their very root. If one can successfully "cut off" the root of addictive thoughts and impulses then they can cut off the control that cravings have over an individual.
